This International Women's Day, we gather three Hispanic women living and working in Hong Kong to learn about their stories. Our own Yamilette Cano will talk with Mexican visual artist Ane Alfeiran, Colombian designer Ingrid Burgos, and Mexican accountant and supporter of women and sustainability Maria Blanca. We will hear about the journeys that brought them to our city, how they started their projects, and some of the challenges they have faced along the way. Yamilette Cano – Moderator; Founder & CEO, LOUDER
Born in colorful Mexico, Yamilette Cano had a childhood full of creativity. She performed and had a career as a professional ballerina for over 20 years. Upon retiring, she moved to Hong Kong and jumped into the Asian events industry as an entrepreneur. After planning thousands of events, she started her journey as a professional public speaker. She fell in love with the feeling of being on stage again and gracing audiences around the world. Having experienced the joys of confident and assertive communication, Yamilette wanted to serve and give others the ability to find their ideal frequency and communicate with confidence. And so, LOUDER® (louderglobal.com) by Yamilette Cano (LOUDER Global) was born.
LOUDER® works with clients around the globe in person and virtually. Yamilette’s elegant style, combined with her passion and dedication, give her the drive to help empower and elevate brands to tell their story with boldness and impact!
Ane Alfeiran – Visual Artist; Co-Founder, Xoloplastics
Ane Alfeiran is a self-taught Mexican artist living and working in Hong Kong. Ane has lived in Hong Kong for the past eight years; prior to that, she lived in Beijing, Dubai, and Spain.
As someone who continues to travel the globe, she draws on inspiration and techniques from the different cities and cultures she has experienced. Ane takes us into the emotional world of each of her subjects, making each painting stand out with its own individual story. Through a deep personal connection present in her compositions, she aims to stimulate viewers’ feelings and imagination and encourage them to create their own interpretation of what the art means to them.
In a relatively short period of time, Alfeiran has accomplished remarkable achievements, exhibiting around the world in Hong Kong, Mexico, the USA, London, Italy, Portugal, and most recently Singapore.
In 2019 Ane co-founded Xoloplastics (xoloplastics.com), a non-profit project that promotes community development, social inclusion, and recycling through art.
Ingrid Burgos – Designer; Founder, Studio Ingrid Burgos
Ingrid Burgos is the founder and creative director of Studio Ingrid Burgos (studioingridburgos.com), a neo-luxury brand of jewelry, handbags, and shoes 100% handcrafted in her studio in Bogota, and currently retailed through her private salon in Hong Kong and showroom in Bogota. An industrial design graduate from the University of the Andes, Bogota, and with a master in accessories design from Domus Academy, Milan, Ingrid is a two-time winner of the “Traza Artesanal” awarded by Artesanias de Colombia. She has also been nominated for the “Lapiz de Acero,” Colombia’s most prestigious design award. Having worked for the luxury brand DoDo by Pomellato, part of the Kering group, Ingrid restarted her eponymous label Studio Ingrid Burgos in 2016. She is on a mission to revive and modernize traditional Colombian handcrafts by designing and creating of one-of-a-kind products based on concepts, stories, and emotions from Colombia’s rich history.
Maria Blanca – Chartered Accountant; Head of Operations, Carbonbase
Maria Blanca (linkedin.com/in/marublanca) is a UK ACCA-qualified chartered accountant with a double degree in international and European business from France and Mexico and a Certified Advisory Board Chair™️.
With over 15 years of corporate work experience in multinational corporations like Citibank and SMEs in Europe and Asia, Maria has acquired extensive management accounting, strategic planning, and forecasting knowledge. She has also successfully established strategic alliances for multiple international companies in Asia. Maria has held positions as CFO and finance director, contributing her expertise in corporate governance and financial controlling that assist companies in achieving their business goals.
She co-founded Womentors (linkedin.com/company/womentors-co) in 2020. This consultancy focuses on establishing diversity and inclusion strategies for companies and is committed to helping women remain active in the workforce at every stage of their journey.
With her ever-expanding experience in different sectors, Maria is now head of operations at Carbonbase (linkedin.com/company/carbonbase). Carbonbase develops innovative methods to calculate, track, trade, and offset carbon emissions through technological advancements in Impact NFTs, to power funds to support regenerative and conservation projects. It is also building a fintech platform to facilitate sustainable transitions for enterprises and individuals to take effective climate action.
