November 1, 2019

On the morning of 24 October 2019, MexCham HK, in collaboration with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, held an InterSME breakfast seminar at KPMG in Causeway Bay. Mr. Jeffrey Broer, Founder of Kophy Venture Ltd, moderated the event.

Mr. Charles Ng, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion, InvestHK, kicked off the morning discussions with a very positive comment regarding SMEs:

"We are living through challenging times, yet we have never had as much funding nor support as we have now, both private and government, and in the form of angel investors, venture capitalists, and others."

Here are some interesting facts he shared:

Hong Kong has over 350,000 SMEs, which make up 90% of the local economy.
Hong Kong is the freest economy in the world, 24 years running.
Thirty-five percent (35%) of people in co-working spaces are from overseas.
Hong Kong is moving towards becoming an international innovation hub.

With numerous funding schemes for startups and SMEs, InvestHK is dedicated to helping companies grow.

Mr. Marcus Cheng, Strategic Partnership Manager at Qupital, followed up with a successful case study and ways for SMEs to raise affordable working capital via different financing options.

Last but not least, Mr. Sebastian Renzacci, Founder of Trip Guru, shared how his company navigated various investment and venture capital financing rounds throughout its several growth phases.
